A European Union Delegation Visits the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce
On August 23, 2026, Nawzad Ghafur Rabati, President of the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along with Muhammad Rasul Safray, Vice President of the Chamber, and Sabir Amin, Bahman Othman, Aram Babaan, Burhan Ali, and Jawhar Star, members of the Chamber’s Administrative Board, received a delegation from the European Union.
The delegation consisted of V.M. Rypma, Cooperation Officer, Zaid Al-Obaidi, Sara Magri, and Marlene vom Hof, Program Managers at the European Union.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of initiating joint work and strengthening relations between the European Union and the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, especially in the fields of agriculture, environment, food industries, and the banking sector.
Nawzad Ghafur Rabati, President of the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed his happiness at the European Union delegation’s visit during the meeting, and pointed out that relations between Sulaymaniyah and European countries have a long history, and trade relations between the two sides continue to this day.
The President of the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry also clarified that merchants of Sulaymaniyah Governorate work with a large number of European companies and are striving to further develop trade relations, expand trade exchange, and increase the participation of local products in European markets.
In the fields of environment and agriculture, he highlighted the importance of investment and stated that the environment is one of the important areas of work in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, with ongoing efforts to use advanced systems for environmental protection. He also considered agriculture as one of the key economic sectors in the region, and the Sulaymaniyah Chamber of Commerce and Industry continuously supports and cooperates in these areas.
In another part of his speech, the Chamber President discussed investment in the banking sector and indicated that the banking system has seen progress, but it is necessary to give more attention to this sector, so that the private sector and companies can provide more and better banking services to merchants and companies.
